MYNIC Spearheads OKU Outreach Program To Propel Malaysia’s Digital Economy

CYBERJAYA, 6th February 2020 – To support and accelerate digital adoption among differently-abled (OKU) people in Malaysia, MYNIC has announced it will be conducting an outreach program to provide ICT and social media training to several OKU organisations nationwide. This program is part of a broader initiative to promote and encourage inclusivity in Malaysia’s digital-first journey.

To kick-start this initiative, MYNIC has approached and engaged with several OKU associations to provide the training to the members such as Malaysia Federation of The Deaf (MFD), Persatuan Pemulihan Orang Cacat Malaysia, OKU Sentral, and others relevant associations from March 2020 in Southern Region.

The OKU benefit is an initiative to accelerate digital adoption focused on increasing the adoption of digital presence by transforming their existing business from offline to online. This is done through enablement of their website with SEO and digital marketing through social media. The training is not just focusing on the development of website only, but more emphasis towards improving and enhancing the digital brand recognition. Beyond this, MYNIC is also offering all OKU a 50% lifetime discount on .MY domains.

YBhg. Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan, Chief Executive Officer MYNIC said, “At MYNIC, our goal is to bridge the opportunity divide by providing digital tools to everyone. We want to level the playing field and promote digital enablement opportunities to the OKU community so that they too can reap the benefits of Malaysia’s digital revolution.”

“MYNIC fully supports the aspirations and efforts by the Government to improve the ICT infrastructure to power Malaysia’s digital economy. Together with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, we are playing our part in preparing the nation for a digital future, to unlock the opportunities for digital innovation, and to drive the digital economy as a core economic pillar of the country,” said Datuk Hasnul.

With MYNIC’s 50% discount for OKU individuals, those eligible will only need to pay RM60 for a new .MY registration and subsequent renewal. To enjoy the discount, OKU individuals must be aged 18 and above, and will be required to provide supporting documents including their original identity card (NRIC) and certified disability card (OKU card) issued by the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia (JKM) upon registration.

The discount is valid for new .MY registrations and each OKU individual is entitled up to five .MY domain names. Registration for a .MY domain name can be done online via www.ichoose.my  and through MYNIC's officially appointed partners.
